Segun Fiki

Segun Fiki is the Managing Partner of Lex Firma LP, where he leads the firm's Dispute Resolution, Commercial Advisory and Regulatory Practice. His practice focuses on commercial litigation, appellate advocacy, arbitration, corporate and commercial law, constitutional and administrative law, regulatory compliance, energy, mining, infrastructure and strategic dispute resolution.

He advises and represents corporations, financial institutions, government agencies, investors, political organisations and private clients in commercial transactions, regulatory matters and complex disputes before superior courts of record across Nigeria.

Segun regularly appears before the Supreme Court of Nigeria, the Court of Appeal, the Federal High Court, the National Industrial Court, the High Courts of the Federal Capital Territory and various State High Courts. His experience spans commercial disputes, constitutional litigation, banking and finance, taxation, customs regulation, insolvency, election law, energy, mining, public procurement and administrative law.

His litigation experience includes participation in proceedings before the Supreme Court of Nigeria involving debt recovery claims by a Tier 1 bank exceeding US$1 billion and raising significant issues relating to abuse of court process, appellate jurisdiction and the exercise of judicial discretion. He has also been a member of legal teams representing public institutions in constitutional proceedings before the trial and Appellate Courts.

Segun has acted in a number of matters that have contributed to the development of Nigerian jurisprudence. He successfully argued proceedings before the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal establishing important principles concerning the application of customs import duties to bona fide personal effects imported into Nigeria. He has also represented political interests in proceedings concerning the justiciability of disputes relating to the executive leadership of political parties within a State.

His practice also includes commercial enforcement, asset recovery and regulatory litigation. He has represented clients in proceedings involving federal regulatory and enforcement agencies, including matters concerning forfeiture, customs enforcement, regulatory investigations and administrative decisions. In the mining sector, he has advised on the acquisition, perfection and protection of mining licences and mining lease interests across several States in Nigeria.

Beyond litigation, Segun advises clients on commercial transactions, corporate governance, project finance, regulatory compliance, insolvency, business recovery and strategic risk management. He has advised on transactions involving substantial investments across a range of sectors, including energy, mining, real estate and financial services.

Prior to founding Lex Firma LP, Segun was the Head of Practice at Ojukwu Chikaosolu (SAN) & Co. Earlier in his career, he practised with Obla and Company, a prominent full-service law firm, where he advised and represented public institutions, financial institutions and private clients in commercial litigation, criminal proceedings, regulatory investigations and corporate advisory matters. His experience included matters involving leading financial, regulatory, tax, communications, asset-recovery and law-enforcement institutions in Nigeria.

Segun holds an LL.M. in International Commercial Law (Distinction) from Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, a Barrister-at-Law (B.L.) from the Nigerian Law School and an LL.B. from the University of Abuja. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Law at Nile University of Nigeria, where his research examines Artificial Intelligence, Judicial Decision-Making and the Administration of Justice.

He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (United Kingdom) and a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, including its Section on Business Law.
